Where old radios are cool...and the coolest radios are really old.

Thank you for stopping by.

This site is dedicated to my late uncle, Mr. Nicholas Ferrante, the proprietor of Webster T.V. and Radio, which was located on Webster Avenue in the Fordham Road section of Bronx, New York. If not for him, my passion for these little marvels of sound would never have come to fruition. He taught me how to repair tube radios by symptom only, before I ever knew how to read a schematic. I miss him dearly and wonder what he would make of today's technological achievements.

I began collecting and repairing transistor radios when I stumbled across my first pocket portable on eBay. I immediately bid on it, (way too high), and it became the first of what is now over 220 radios in my collection. It was a Channel Master model 6506, made by Sanyo. (See picture below). It had an all black case, with beautiful, gleaming chrome accents, just like my first Schwinn bike. When I received it from eBay, I was transported back to the year 1959 , and all sorts of memories emerged. Rock 'n Roll was the craze, and I was the first kid on the block to have a transistor radio. I was all of 14 years old. I took it everywhere and am very grateful that the 'AA' batteries were supplied by my parents and grandparents. The other two pictures are my wall displays. Not shown are my curio cabinets with radios inside.

Sorry 'bout the over-lap, but you get the idea!

I hope you enjoy browsing through all the photos I intend to publish here, as these small wonders of early miniaturization are starting to disappear from our homes, as did the early vacuum tube sets. I also hope it makes us appreciate the advances of our newest technologies, mainly in the communications area. God bless the cell phone!
Please enjoy your visit.
Thanks,
Vic
